Arts Advocacy Day
March 7-8, 2016
Washington, DC
Each year, Americans for the Arts hosts advocacy training for arts advocates from across the country. This year the 29th annual Arts Advocacy Day brought together a broad cross section of America's cultural and civic organizations, along with 500 grassroots advocates representing 48 states across the country, to underscore the importance of developing strong public policies and appropriating increased public funding for the arts. At the start of the day, during the Congressional Arts Kick-Off event, the Congressional Arts Leadership Award was presented to Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR). Throughout the day performing artists and arts visionaries including John Maeda, Ledisi, and Kaki King discussed with us the impact of arts education in their lives and why they feel it's important to advocate for the arts.
