Arts Advocacy Day
March 24-25, 2014
Washington, DC
Each year, Americans for the Arts hosts advocacy training for arts advocates from across the country. This year, nearly 500 attendees, representing 45 states across the country received the training they need to effectively make the case for arts support from Capitol Hill all the way to their city halls. After a day of training – and inspiration at the Hanks Lecture and Congressional Arts Kick Off – our advocates, including Alec Baldwin, met with their members of Congress on Capitol Hill.
"We need the support of both sides of the aisle. And when people, men and women, Republicans and Democrats, make a stand on behalf of this work and this funding, which is difficult because everything’s a fight, everything is a fight when it comes to the art- and [the National Endowment for the Arts] is the most abused program in US history-... those men and women, and those members of the House on both sides of the aisle, who fight this fight for us, we need to thank them. It’s not easy. This is a program that for some reason is always misunderstood and misinterpreted by some people. So when you go out there today, make it personal. Tell them why you’re here. Tell them why you care about this. And thank them."
– Alec Baldwin, Actor and Activist
