Diversity is already thriving in our communities. The arts provide the tools for us to better celebrate what exists while maximizing the benefits of the changes to come. Americans for the Arts is dedicated to recognizing, celebrating, and leveraging the diversity around us.
Local Arts Salary Survey
While investing in the arts at any level is essential, we realize the unique contribution local arts agencies make to their communities. To better understand the diversity of the field, we embarked on a study to quantify the structure, leadership, salary, and diversity of local arts agency employees. This past summer, we released the 2013 Local Arts Agency Salaries research report.
ABC/NY Multicultural Internship Program
The Multicultural Arts Management Internship program was created as part of the Arts & Business Council of New York to nurture and develop the next generation of arts leaders, providing them with a hands-on introduction to working in the business fields of the increasingly diverse nonprofit arts sector. In 2013, we deepened our connection the Arts & Business Council of a New York, a division of Americans for the Arts since 2005, strengthening our commitment to the advancement of private sector support for the arts and arts education.
Cultural Districts Preconference & Blog Salon
Communities are evolving, and the arts are poised to help address and encourage those changes. In order to build better communities for our future, we must train arts leaders to make diverse cultural plans and advance cultural districts that involve everyone in a community. During the 2013 Americans for the Arts Annual Convention, we introduced the first Arts, Entertainment & Cultural Districts Preconference to the field. The preconference was followed by a blog salon hosted on ARTSblog and a webinar, “Planning and Creating Successful Cultural, Arts, and Entertainment Districts.” The preconference, blog salon, and webinar were extensions of our continual effort to involve mayors and other city executives in the discussion to help cities across America reinvent their city for the age of creativity and innovation.
